On Sunday afternoon the Whites Senior team took to the pitch at Clann Eireann to face Clan Na Gael in the first round of the Pat McMahon Cup. This was the first time the teams had met in years. The game started with the Whites struggling to find their range up front with the Clans ticking over a couple of frees to open up a lead. This was to be their final score of the first half as the Whites came into the game and started tagging on a couple of points. As the half went on you could see the frustration creeping into the Clans game as their forward line was outmuscled by the whites defence. This led to our forwards getting more of the ball and when they did they made the most of it as the Whites led at half time 0-04 to 0-02.

The teams traded points in the first ten minutes of the second half with the whites maintaining their 2 point. But then the decision that seemend to shift the momentum the Clans way. What looked like a regulation foul outside the square was given as a penalty to the Clans. The Clans tucked it away and added a couple of more scores to lead by 4 going into the final 10 minutes. However, the Whites never gave up and got themselves a fortunate goal to bring the game down to just the minimum. With minutes remaining two great scores from the forwards gave the Whites a one point lead going into injury time. The defence stood firm and the seniors held out for their first win over the Clans in 19 years.

Hail Hail!!
